Description
Fab-Lok fasteners with an aluminum sleeve and an 18-8 stainless steel screw are a high-performance, vibration-resistant fastening system for applications, especially in soft or thin materials and blind installations. They combine the simplicity of a rivet with the strength of a screw to provide superior joint integrity.
Components and Materials
- Screw: The fastener uses a hex washer head machine screw made of 300 series (18-8) stainless steel. This material is chosen for its high strength, ductility, and superior corrosion resistance compared to carbon steel and 410 series stainless steel. The screw typically has a finish, such as Stalgard GB coating, to enhance galvanic compatibility in dissimilar metal applications involving aluminum.
- Sleeve: The sleeve is made from 5052-H32 aluminum alloy. It is slotted and designed to collapse and form four large clamping tines on the backside of the joint during installation. These clamping tines remain in place, even if the screw is later removed.
- Sealing Washer: An EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) or neoprene sealing washer is included, which provides a weather-tight seal, making the fastener suitable for both interior and exterior use.
